WEEK 20 (MEN): HAMPUS GUSTAFSSON (Men's Ice Hockey | Senior | Ljunby, Sweden)
After a five-point outing that included the program's first hat trick in six years led the Merrimack College men's ice hockey team to a historic win at No. 7 Boston College last Friday, senior forward Hampus Gustafsson has been named the Fuddruckers Male Athlete of the Week.
Gustafsson, who was named Hockey East Player of the Week for the first time in his career earlier in the week, potted the program's first hat trick since March of 2011 after lighting the lamp thrice against the Eagles. In addition to those three tallies, the Ljungby, Sweden, native dished two helpers to account for his career-best five-point performance. That single-game scoring output was the most by a Warrior this season, as well. And despite playing in just the one game, Gustafsson still finished last week ranked third nationally in total scoring and had one of five hat tricks nationwide.
Through 28 games, Gustafsson remains Merrimack's lead scorer with 14 tallies; he is six goals clear of the next-closest skater, and he ranks second in overall scoring with 24 points and plus/minus (+9).
Gustafsson and the rest of the Warriors begin a three-game week with a trip to UMass tomorrow night. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
