NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference announced its Fall 2016 Commissioner's Honor Roll (CHR) selections this morning, and nearly 300 Merrimack College student-athletes were among the conference's list of top academic performers who posted 3.0 or better grade-point averages (GPA) last semester.
In total, 295 Warriors – 19 higher than last spring's total and the most for a single semester for the athletic department since the CHR's inception – were among the 3,827 student-athletes conference-wide who earned this distinction. The 61 percent of the conference's student-athletes that were named to the CHR equals the conference's previous record.
Of the 3,827 recognized, 212 student-athletes posted a perfect 4.0 GPA, including a conference-most 32 Merrimack student-athletes. That figure is six more than the Spring 2016 CHR segment, which featured 26 Warriors with perfect 4.0 GPAs. The next-closest school was Adelphi with 23 4.0 student-athletes.
Merrimack's 295 total selections were the second-highest total by an individual institution in the conference. Only Bentley's 368 honorees were more. Additionally, Merrimack had 141 of its student-athletes post GPAs in the 3.50-3.99 range, and an additional 122 who were slotted in the 3.00-3.49 GPA range.
In order to be eligible for CHR selection, a student-athlete must have met or exceeded a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale during the semester.
The highest total of student-athletes that were recognized came from the sport of football with a total of 402 (up 25 student-athletes from the spring). Women's track and field was next with 332 honorees followed by women's soccer (331), baseball (296) and men's lacrosse (268).
