Men’s Tennis Blazes Past American Int’l, 9-0

MELROSE, MA- The Merrimack men's tennis team coasted to a 9-0 victory over American International Wednesday afternoon at Bellevue Country Club. The Warriors remain unbeaten in the Northeast-10 as they improve to 9-0 in league matches and 13-7 overall. The Yellow Jackets sink to 0-12 on the year and 0-9 in conference play.

"We took another step closer to one of our team goals today as everyone played great," said head coach Sean Tully. "We have a very important match tomorrow and we will need to finish the season strong with just two matches remaining."

Merrimack claimed a pair of doubles victories and owned a 3-0 lead at the end of doubles play due to American International defaulting at the No. 3 position. The Warriors' top duo of Max Eppley (Malaga, Spain) and Sean Pahler (Rumson, NJ) posted an 8-0 victory at the No. 1 slot. Vince Bellino (Amesbury, MA) and Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, MA) rolled to an 8-0 win at the second spot.

The hosts swept the six points in singles action to secure their second-straight victory.

Eppley picked up an 8-5 win at the top slot while Petar Golijanin (Novi Sad, Serbia) prevailed 8-1 at the No. 2 position. Bellino cruised to an 8-1 victory at the No. 3 spot and Pahler captured an 8-0 win at the fourth slot.

Chris Toegemann (Narragansett, RI) breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 decision at the No. 5 spot. The Yellow Jackets defaulted at the No. 6 position.

Merrimack will hit the road for a first-place showdown at Bentley April 12. The Warriors and Falcons both head into the match sporting 9-0 records in the Northeast-10 Conference.
