NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Three men’s teams, soccer, track and hockey, and three women’s teams, softball, volleyball and tennis, have been named finalists for the highest team GPA honor for the 2010-11 academic year.
The men’s soccer team, which had 20 student-athletes named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll in the fall for posting a GPA above 3.0, leads the way on the men’s side with a 3.197 GPA. Robbie Sabadoz (Ottawa, ON) was named to the Northeast-10 All-Academic team in the fall.
In its first year of competition, the men’s track team has shined on and off the field, while the hockey team had 15 student-athletes with a 3.0 GPA or better in the fall on its way to best Division I season in school history.
On the women’s side, softball and volleyball posted virtually identical GPA’s in the fall.
A finalist last year for the award and the winner in 2008-09, softball had 16 honorees on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll in the fall, while nine of 10 volleyball student-athletes were also represented, led by Heidi Wroblicky’s (Irvine, CA) perfect 4.0 GPA.
Last year’s female team winner, the women’s tennis team, edged field hockey for the third finalist position with a 3.28 GPA.
In all, 15 of 20 intercollegiate teams at Merrimack boast a GPA of 3.0 or better, while two other teams are within fractions of a point to reach the 3.0 plateau.
