Women's Basketball Loses to Fort Valley State 77-66 Saturday
FAIRBANKS, AK. - The Merrimack women's basketball team
dropped a 77-66 decision in the consolation game to Fort Valley
State at the North Star Invitational Saturday night.
The Warriors fell behind 21-9 early and could not recover.
Amanda Shannon (North Andover, MA) tallied 14
points, while adding eight assists and six rebounds for the
Warriors, who had all five starters reach double-figures in
scoring.
Fairbanks native Casey Miller (Fairbanks, AK)
added 12 points on just three-of-12 shooting, as Merrimack shot 30%
from the field.
Shawnta McCoy and LaTasha Pearson each grabbed ten rebounds for
Fort Valley State, who posted 28 points in the paint, to
Merrimack's 12. The Wildcats shot 57% in the second half, paced by
18 points from Takesha Riggs.
In the championship game, Chico State defeated Alaska Fairbanks
74-65.
The Warriors (2-2) will open Northeast-10 action at Saint Michael's
on Wednesday (5:00 p.m.) before returning home to face off against
AIC Saturday.
