NORTH ANDOVER, MA. – The Merrimack women’s basketball team rallied after a tough first half but fell to Assumption 72-59 Thursday night in a Northeast-10 game at the Volpe Gym.

Four different Warriors scored in double figures, led by 13 from Casey Miller (Fairbanks, AK). Ashley Brownlee (Portland, ME) and Takeya Faison (Lynn, MA) added 11 each.

The Warriors trailed 39-27 at the half due to shooting just 9-for-31 from the field while turning the ball over 17 times.

They cut the lead to six at 53-47 with 9:16 to play behind a Brownlee jumper, and then to five at 60-55 with 3:52 remaining as Faison hit a runner, got fouled and converted the three-point play.

But the Greyhounds hit their free throws when they needed to and were strong inside, sinking 32 points from the paint.

Beth Plasski led all scorers with 18 points and was eight-of-ten from the free-throw line. Charde Floyd added seven points and ten boards.

Merrimack grabbed 20 offensive rebounds, led by four from Miller and Kara Borelli (Westbrook, ME) to just ten for Assumption.

They spent much of the game in foul trouble, as 27 fouls were called against Merrimack.

The Warriors (2-6, 0-4 NE-10) will have the weekend off before heading to #21 Bentley College Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m.
