Women's Basketball Drops Offensive Shootout 93-79 to Southern N.H.
MANCHESTER, NH. – The Merrimack women’s basketball
team tallied 79 points, its second highest total this season, but
could not slow down Southern New Hampshire, losing to the Penmen
93-79 Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference game.
Amanda Shannon (North Andover, MA) led the Warriors with 19 points,
while Casey Miller (Fairbanks, AK) and Takeya Faison (Lynn, MA)
added 18 each. Miller posted a team-high four three-pointers, while
Faison was five-for-10 from the field and scored her points in just
20 minutes.
The Warriors started slowly, shooting just 30% in the first half
and went into the locker room trailing 44-30. Southern N.H. was
red-hot from the field, shooting 59% in the first half behind 12
from Julia Houghtaling.
The second half was an offensive shootout with both teams scoring
49 points. The hot shooting of the Penmen continued as they shot
67% in the second half finishing with a 63% mark. Merrimack tallied
seven threes in the final frame, including three from Miller.
Shannon posted 16 second-half points to go with three assists and
two steals.
Four Penmen finished in double-figures in scoring, led by 21 by
Houghtaling. Southern N.H. outscored Merrimack in the paint
50-to-18.
Merrimack (5-14, 1-12 NE-10) wraps its two-game trip in Manchester
at Saint Anselm Tuesday night (5:30 p.m.).
