Women's Basketball No Match for #13 Stonehill in 76-45 Loss; Senior Night is Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
EASTON, MA. – Thirteenth-ranked Stonehill continued its
charge to the Northeast-10 title with a 76-45 victory over
Merrimack Saturday afternoon.
Junior Amanda Shannon (North Andover, MA.) led the Warriors with 16
points, while senior Takeya Faison (Lynn, MA.) added a career-high
12 rebounds in her second-to-last collegiate game.
Eleven different Skyhawks scored while three were in
double-figures, led by 18 off the bench from Erin Gray, who was a
perfect 8-for-8 from the field. Erika Stupinski dished out 13
assists as Stonehill got 54 points out of its bench in this
contest.
Merrimack shot just 18-for-58 from the field and just 20.7% in the
second half, as they scored 17 points in the final frame to
Stonehill’s 37.
Stonehill took charge of this game early, using a 14-4 run midway
through the first half to stretch the lead to 28-16. The Warriors
would not cut the deficit to single digits the rest of the way as
the Skyhawks, who will get a first-round bye in the Northeast-10
Tournament, emptied their bench in the second half.
Faison added seven points to go with her 12 rebounds, while Ashley
Brownlee (Portland, ME.) tallied seven points and six rebounds off
the bench in 27 minutes.
The Warriors (9-18, 5-16 NE-10) will wrap up their season Tuesday
night at the Volpe Gym against Bryant University at 5:30 p.m.
Before the game, Merrimack’s four seniors, Gately Golden
(Fair Haven, NJ), Kara Borelli (Westbrook, ME), Faison and Brownlee
will be honored for their four years of hard work and contributions
to the women’s basketball program.
