WESTFIELD, MA – The Merrimack women's cross country team put on a strong showing in their biggest event of the year, bringing home a 4th place finish at the Northeast-10 championships. They missed third place by only one point. The team finished in a combined time of 1:35:35.44 and had seven runners finish inside the top fifty. The 4th place finish was tied for the best finish for the Warriors since the 1999-2000 season.
Continuing to build on a strong second half of the year, Fiona Coleman (Windsor, CT) led the way for Merrimack. Coleman finished 22nd in a time of 18:48.08, establishing a new season low time for the sophomore. Next came a group of Warrior runners, with seven Merrimack women finishing between the 33rd and 53rd positions. Brianna Devereaux (Londonderry, NH) and Anne Bajor (Methuen, MA) ran together finishing in 35th and 36th, respectively.
Next was a pair of freshman in 39th and 41st, with Meghan Brophy (Waltham, MA) finishing in 19:13 and Chandler Ortega (Pittsfield, MA) crossing the line in 19:16. Ashley Sarris (Shelton, CT) and Christina Fisher (Mansfield Center, MA) finished one runner apart in 45th and 47th. Finishing in the top half were Rebecca Ainscow (Derry, NH) in 53rd, Andrea Chapa-Cerviatti (Holden, MA) in 68th and Kelsey Grimmer (Shelton, CT) in 74th.
"The girls ran a fantastic meet today" said head coach Chris Cameron, "Almost every girl ran a personal best today. We are finally starting to get healthy and are looking to build on this effort in out next meet."
The Warriors are back in action in the NCAA Regional meet at Franklin Park in Boston on November 6th. They will close out their season looking to expand on today's success.
