What They Said
Head coach Chris Cameron, "Overall we had a really nice pack, our one through five runners were only 18 seconds apart. What we need to keep focusing on moving forward is moving the pack's time up but keeping it tight. I'm happy with a good win on Saturday."
How It Happened
- The Warriors win at the Kirsh Cup Saturday marks the second straight year Merrimack has won the Franklin Pierce-hosted meet. It also marks the second consecutive race the junior Maddie Mercado (Palenville, N.Y.) registered the top finish for Merrimack, placing 11th with a time of 20:02.1 in the 5k, nearly identical to her time posted in 2016's first meet.
- The Navy and Gold once again displayed the pack-running approach they focus on, as sophomore Sophie Gorton (Plymouth, Mass.) and freshman Katherine Ferrara (Norfolk, Mass.) finished right behind Mercado in 12th and 13th, respectively, all posting times within four second of each other.
- Shortly behind the Warriors leading pack was yet another freshman in Ariel Vaillancourt (Auburn, N.H.), posting a 17th-place finish at 20:14.9.
- Rounding out the top five finishers for Merrimack was sophomore Jackie Coscia (Scituate, Mass.), finishing 20th at a time of 20:20.2.
The Warriors are back in action next Saturday the 24th when they travel to Boston to compete in the Codfish Bowl at Franklin Park.
