BOSTON, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's cross country team competed at the New England Championships among plenty of Division I competition on Saturday, placing 30th in the varsity race in the meet at Franklin Park in Boston.

Head coach Chris Cameron, "We mixed the squads up a bit so some people in the JV race would ran faster than some in the varisty race. We saw some good performances for the women, a lot of people stepped it up. We'll rest up over these next two weeks and get ourselves ready for NE-10s."
How It Happened
- For the first time in her young career and first time for a rookie this season, freshman Katherine Ferrara (Norfolk, Mass.) would register for the best time for the Warriors in the 5k race at the New England Championships, posting a time of 19:47 for a 139th-place finish in a 234-runner field filled with Division I competition.
- Youth continued to show itself as a strong suit for Merrimack this season, with another underclassmen in Sophie Gorton (Plymouth, Mass.) again posting a top time for the Warriors. She finished nine spots behind Ferrara in 148th with a time of 19:52.
- Junior Kylie Reardon (Billerica, Mass.) posted the third best time for the Warriors on the day, doing so in the sub-varsity race to post a 60th-place finish out 223 runners. She ran the 5k in a time of 19:57.
- A pair of freshman would round out the Warriors' top finishers in the varsity race as rookies Ariel Vaillancourt (Auburn, N.H.) and Sara Tarascio (Southbury, Conn.) both cracked Merrimack's top four finishers in the varsity race. They finished 162nd and 170th, respectively, with times of 20:00 and 20:10.
The Warriors have two weeks off to rest up and prepare for the Northeast-10 Conference Championships that will be run Saturday, October 22 at Stonehill College.
