Men's Tennis Falls at Eckerd, 9-0

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. – The Merrimack College men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 contest to Eckerd College on Sunday evening to begin its four-match swing through the Sunshine State.

How It Happened
The Warriors fell in all three doubles contests to open the match, using three new combinations. At first doubles, Nick Majewski (Brewster, Mass.) and Laurence Akwei (Johnannesburg, South Africa) lost by a score of 8-3. Sophomore Mikhail Belov (Krasnoarmeyskoy, Russia) and freshman Tyler Clontz (Naples, Fla.) debuted as a duo, falling by an identical 8-3 margin. Sophomore Frank Vega (Lima, Peru) and freshman Alex Slobin (Fairfield, Conn.) lost in the closest contest, 8-6.

Singles play saw two matches go to three sets. At second singles, Majewski won the opening set, 6-4, before dropping the final two frames. Clontz did the same at sixth singles, winning his first set (7-5), before his opponent prevailed in the final two sets.

Belov dropped his matchup at No. 1 singles, as did Vega at No. 3 (6-4, 6-4). Akwei and Slobin played up a slot, at fourth and fifth singles, respectively.
