After putting forth a career-high scoring output, nearly setting a pair of single-game school records while adding a double-double to boot, sophomore Alyssa Casey of the Merrimack women's basketball program has been named this week's Fuddruckers Female Athlete of the Week after leading the Warriors to a pair of victories last week.Â
Casey led Merrimack to a pair of wins with averages of 21.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 53.3 percent from the field (16-30) and 66.7 percent from three (8-12). Casey’s week was headlined by a career-high 34 points against Bridgeport, which also featured 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. The Andover, Mass. native sank a career-best eight 3-pointers on 10 attempts, setting a career high and posting the third most threes in a game nationwide this season. She fell two points shy of tying the program’s single-game scoring record and one three shy of tying the single-game 3-pointer’s made record.
Casey and the Warriors return to conference play this week with a pair of cross-divisional matchups. The Warriors open the week with a matchup against Southern Connecticut State on the road before hosting Pace University at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Hammel Court.Â
