After leading the Merrimack College men's basketball program to a pair of victories that featured his third double-double of the season, junior point guard
Juvaris Hayes has been named Fuddruckers Male Athlete of the Week for the first time this season.
Hayes guided Merrimack to two wins, averaging 14.5 points 9.0 assists and 4.0 steals over two wins for the Warriors. Hayes shot 52.4 percent from the field, made all of his 3-point attempts and went 5-of-6 at the line over the two games. Hayes picked up a double-double against Adelphi, totaling 15 points and 10 assists for his third time doubling up this season. The point guard followed that up with a 10-point, eight-assist and seven-steal performance against Le Moyne, his second most thefts in a game this season.
The Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List selectee, Hayes is among the team leaders in nearly every statistic, pacing the Warriors in scoring, assists and steals. The Paterson, N.J. native ranks second in rebounding, and lead the NE10Â in field goals made. The floor general is shooting better than 50 percent from the field through 18 games, and has seen his career scoring total rise over 1,350 career points this season.
Hayes and the rest of the Warriors have one game this week, hosting New Haven on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Hammel Court.Â
