Denis Davydov won two more matches at first singles over the weekend, both of which came in three sets, to guide the men's tennis program to two more Northeast-10 Conference victories, and earn this week's Fuddruckers Male Athlete of the Week award.
Davydov increased his singles winning streak to six matches and improved to 11-0 this season at No. 1 singles vs. DII opponents with a pair of three-set NE10 wins over the weekend. Davydov is also now 5-0 in dual matches this season that have lasted three sets, topping Assumption’s top option on Saturday before doing the same against Le Moyne’s No. 1 on Sunday. His victory over the Dolphins broke a 3-3 deadlock and clinched the win for Merrimack. Davydov also added a win at first doubles over the Greyhounds, 6-2.
Merrimack increased its winning streak to six matches over the weekend, and has won 10 of its last 11 overall. Davydov has been pivotal to the team's success this season, winning at singles in every DII dual match he's played in while also playing at first doubles throughout the spring. The second-year Warrior is tied for the team lead with 30 total victories this season.
Davydov and the Warriors return to action tomorrow afternoon when Merrimack visits Adelphi for a 2 p.m. match on Long Island.Â
