Junior Kate Fisher of the Merrimack College women's cross country team finished second among attached runners at Bryant's Shawn Nassaney Invitational, leading the Warriors to an impressive fourth-place finish at their first-ever Division I meet. As a result, Fisher has been first Fuddruckers Female Athlete of the Week for the 2019-20 year, and the first recipient of Merrimack's Division I era.Â
Fisher posted a time of 18:22.6, which was the second fastest 5K time in women's cross country history. She was Merrimack's top runner at the event, and only trailed a student-athlete from Northeastern among attached runners. Including the unattached entries, Fisher was the fifth fastest at the event, which was hosted on the Bulldogs' Smithfield campus.Â
The Warriors will have three weeks off between meets, next competing at the Codfish Bowl on Saturday, Sept. 28, at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.Â
