Juvaris Hayes has been named this week's Fuddruckers Male Athlete of the Week after a NEC Prime Performer honor after his first two NEC basketball games last week.Â
Hayes averaged 14.0 points, 7.0 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 5.0 steals per game over his first two NEC contests, helping Merrimack to a 1-1 record including a win over Sacred Heart. Hayes was superb against the Big Red, posting a line of 17 points, eight steals, seven rebounds and six assists to lead the Warriors to victory. He became just the sixth player nationally over the last decade with a stat line with at least 17 points, eight steals, seven rebounds and six assists. Overall on the week he shot 52.0 percent (13-25) from the field, had an assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.5:1 (14:4) and totaled 11 boards and 10 steals over the two games. He scored in double figures against both Sacred Heart and Robert Morris.
The Warriors are back in action on Thursday night when Merrimack hosts Mount St. Mary's at 7 p.m. at Hammel Court.Â
