Behind a 15-point week that featured seven goals, senior forward
Rylie Hammond (Phillipston, Mass.) of the Merrimack College field hockey program has been named this week's
Fuddruckers Female Athlete of the Week.
For her efforts, Hammond was also named Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week. Hammond started the week with a hat trick against No. 3 Saint Anselm, leading the Warriors to an upset of the Hawks on the road. She followed that up by tying her career high and equaling the single-season high in the country this season with a four-goal effort against Southern Connecticut State University.
She increased her team-leading goal total to 17 on the season, along with a program-best 36 points. Both totals rank third in the NE10, eclipsing her previous career highs in goals and points last week. For her career, Hammond now has 109 points – the fourth-most in program history – and 47 goals, which ranks second all-time at Merrimack.
Nationally, Hammond's four-goal performance tied the single-game high for any player in the country, while the nine points equaled the fourth-highest performance. Her averages of 3.00 points-per-game and 1.42 goals-per-game both are good for third nationwide, and are on pace to be career bests.
Hammond and the Warriors return to action on Friday afternoon, when the Navy and Gold travel to No. 4 LIU Post for a 2 p.m. contest in Brookville, N.Y.
