Redshirt freshman linebacker
Jake Ragusa (Canton, Mass.) of the Merrimack College football team has been named
Fuddruckers Athlete of the Week.
Ragusa, who was also tabbed the Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career yesterday, had a stellar showing in Saturday's victory over Saint Anselm. Ragusa, who is in his first full season as a starter, led the team with nine tackles in the Warriors' 41-3 romping of the Hawks on Senior Day.
A season-high 3-1/2 of those nine tackles were for losses totaling 30 yards. He also had a monstrous tackle that led to a forced fumble that was immediately returned for a touchdown in the first half, setting the tone for the Warrior victory. Finally, Ragusa had one of the team's three sacks, as well.
In eight games this season, Ragusa ranks third on the team in total tackles (53) and first in tackles for losses (12.5) while sharing the team lead in sacks (4.5). He has a team-high two interceptions and has forced two fumbles with one recovery. He ranks tied for fourth in the league in sacks and ninth in interceptions.
Ragusa and the rest of the Warriors conclude the 2017 season with back-to-back road matchups starting with a trip to Long Island to battle LIU Post next Saturday (Nov. 4). Kickoff against the reigning NE10 champions is set for 12 p.m.
