After another sensational showing in a pair of games last week, freshman Alyssa Casey (Andover, Mass.) of the Merrimack College women's basketball team has been named Fuddruckers Female Athlete of the Week!
Casey claimed NE10Â Rookie of the Week honors for the second straight time and fourth occurrence in the first five weeks of the regular season, as the freshman sensation continues to impress.
The Andover native nearly averaged a double-double with 19.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest in a pair of divisional road games for the Navy and Gold. She started the week by doubling up for the third time through nine games, scoring 20 points and adding 11 rebounds in Merrimack's win at Franklin Pierce. She also contributed 18 points and eight rebounds on Saturday at Saint Michael's.
Through nine games, Casey leads all NE10 freshmen in scoring at 18.4 points per game and ranks fourth in the conference overall. The Andover native emerged from the weekend as the third-leading scorer among freshmen nationwide.
She paces Merrimack in field goals (69) and field-goal attempts (153), ranking second in both field-goal percentage (45.1) and three-point field goals (14). Her rebounding average of 7.7 per contest and 69 total boards both lead the Warriors, while she is among the team leaders in steals (14) and blocks (4).
Casey and the Warriors have one more conference game in the calendar year, hosting #3/4 Bentley University tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m. from Hammel Court.
