Sophomore guard Juvaris Hayes of the Merrimack College men's basketball program has been named this week's Fuddruckers Male Athlete of the Week following his pair of stellar performances last week for the Warriors.
Hayes started the week with his second-ever triple-double, posting 21 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in the Warriors' 11-point against Southern Connecticut. He followed that up with 17-point five-steal effort at Pace on Saturday, leading the Navy and Gold to a four-point win over the Setters.Â
The Paterson native averaged 19.0 points, 7.0 assists, 7.0 rebounds and 5.0 steals per game overall, becoming the ninth player nationwide with a triple-double this season. It marked the sophomore’s second of his career. Hayes led Merrimack in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals on the week, increasing on his team-best averages in all four categories through 15 games.
The nation's leader in assists, assists per game, steals and steals per game, Hayes is currently on pace to finish with 112 total thefts in the regular season, which would rank second second all-time in NE10 history. If the Warriors qualify for the postseason, the floor general is on track to set a new conference record.Â
Hayes and the Warriors play in two games this week, beginning on Tuesday evening at home vs. Adelphi and concluding with a road tilt against Le Moyne on Saturday afternoon.Â
