Sophomore Denia Davis-Stewart of the women's basketball team has been named this week's Fuddruckers Female Athlete of the Week, after a double-double and five blocks in the Warriors' victory last week at New Haven.Â
The second-year post player now has four double-doubles in seven appearances this season, which already is tied for the team lead. After returning to the Warriors' lineup in mid-December, the NE10 All-Rookie Team member has averaged 10.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game to take over the team lead in rebounds per contest.Â
Her defensive presence in the middle of the Warriors' zone led to Merrimack allowing just 27 points to the Chargers, the fewest the team has allowed to a Division II since 2003. The Dorchester native rejected five shots on the night, seeing her season total increase to 33, which is the third-most in the entire conference. If she qualified, the second-year post would be among the nation's leaders with nearly 5.0 blocks per game.Â
Davis-Stewart and the Warriors return to action with two games this week, beginning on Tuesday night when Merrimack travels to American International to face the Yellow Jackets at 5:30 p.m. Â
