After a 2-0 week in singles and a similar mark in doubles play helped the men's tennis team post a huge regional win on Sunday, junior Alex Fedorov has been named Fuddruckers Male Athlete of the Week.
Fedorov picked up a pair of singles victories in the two dual matches he played in. On Saturday against District of Columbia, Fedorov defeated his opponent in straight sets by a 7-6, 6-4 margin, and then paired up with senior Frank Vega in a thrilling 9-8 (7-4) doubles win. While the Warriors ultimately fell in that match by a 6-3 score, Fedorov factored into two of those three points.
A day later, Fedorov again won in singles, this time needing three sets in a 7-6 (7-1), 4-6, 6-0 victory, to go perfect in singles on the week. He also picked up another doubles win -- this time with graduate student Denis Davydov -- by an 8-6 tally to help the Warriors pick up a huge match victory over Chestnut Hill in a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament meeting.
On the year, Fedorov now stands at 11-5 in 16 singles matches with an 8-2 record in dual matches. He is also a combined 9-5 in doubles play (6-3 in dual matches).
The Warriors return to action against Saint Anselm on Saturday at the Northeast Tennis Center beginning at 4:30 p.m.
