After pitching a gem to lead the baseball team to an upset of No. 7 New Haven, freshman pitcher Vin Zappulla has been named Fuddruckers Male Athlete of the Week.

Zappulla, who was also tabbed the NE10 Rookie of the Week, went seven innings, allowing just one earned run, as Merrimack gave the nationally ranked Chargers just their second loss of the season on Sunday. The righty made just his second start and fourth appearance overall this season, silencing the Chargers' bats for the majority of the game.

The Staten Island native lowered his season ERA to 2.87 over 15.2 innings of work, which is the second lowest on the Navy and Gold. The first-year hurler is limiting opponents to a .245 batting average this season, while his win over New Haven was his team-best third of the year

Zappulla and the Warriors begin divisional action with four Northeast contests this week, beginning on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. against Assumption College from the New England Sports Complex in Northborough, Mass.
