Sophomore Joey PorricelliĀ of the Merrimack College baseball program has been named this weekĀ Fuddruckers Male Athlete of the WeekĀ following a stellar performance from the leadoff spot in Merrimack's order that led the Warriors to a 3-1 week.Ā
Porricelli hit 9-for-19 from the leadoff spot in Merrimack's order, collecting the most hits on the team and scoring a team-best eight runs. The Monroe, Conn. native notched three doubles to lead the squad, and tied for the team lead with two stolen bases. Porricelli scored three runs in Merrimack's 5-4 walk-off victory over Saint Anselm, including the game-winning run. He also posted three multi-hit efforts last week, including a pair of three-hit games.
The starting third baseman saw his season average climb nearly 30 points last week, and now enters the final three weeks of the regular season hitting at a .319 clip. Porricelli tied his career high with his 43rdĀ base knock of the season on Saturday, and already has set new personal bests in runs (31), doubles (11), RBI (17) and steals (10) in 2018. He ranks tied for third in runs scored and tied for second in doubles across the NE10.
Porricelli and the rest of the Warriors face a five-game gauntlet this week beginning with their series opener with Bentley Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in Waltham, Mass.
