After being selected the Most Valuable Player at the NE10 Championship and lead the Merrimack College baseball program to its first conference title in 22 years, graduate student Tyler Lyne has been named Fuddruckers Male Athlete of the Week.Â
Lyne hit .682 over five games last week, totaling an astounding OPS of 1.737. The starter center fielder's slugging percentage was over 1.000 by itself (1.045), which was over 400 points more than the next closest Warrior. Lyne led Merrimack's attack with 15 hits, nine runs, eight steals, five extra-base hits, three triples and one triple and one homer each. The Agawam, Mass. native also was named to the NE10 All-Tournament Team for his efforts.Â
Just last week alone, Lyne broke Merrimack's all-time single-season hits record and now is the only player in program history with an 80-hit season entering the NCAA Tournament. Lyne also became the second Warrior ever with a 30-steal season, and needs four during the East Regional to set a new school record (38). He also tied the school's career triples record with his 14th career three-bagger on Friday night.
Lyne and the Warriors return to action on Thursday morning when Merrimack faces No. 20Â Le Moyne College at 11 a.m. in Pleasantville, N.Y. in the program's first NCAA Tournament berth since 1999.Â
