For the second time in 2018-19, senior Mary McNeil of the third-ranked field hockey program has been named this week's Fuddruckers Female Athlete of the Week.
McNeil was named the Northeast-10 Conference Championship's Most Outstanding Player following a four-point week over three games that delivered the Warriors their first conference tournament title in school history. It was the Canton Mass. native's goal with 0:00 on the clock after Merrimack was awarded a penalty corner in the waning seconds that gave the Warriors a 2-1 win over Saint Anselm in the conference final.
On the season, McNeil has set career highs across the board including 17 goals, 15 assists and 49 points. She is one point shy of posting the fourth 50-point campaign in school annals while she is two helpers away from establishing a new single-season assists record, after she already broke the program's career assist record earlier in the regular season.
Following a school record 18-win campaign through the conference tournament, the Warriors were rewarded with their fifth-ever NCAA Tournament berth as the No. 5 seed. The Warriors will face fourth-seeded Shippensburg University on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the opening round, competing in their first NCAA Tournament since the program's national-title game run in 2015.
