Women's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw with New Haven
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack women's soccer
Warriors (9-3-2, 6-3-1 NE-10) tallied just their second scoreless
game of the year on Saturday afternoon, but managed a tie against
the Chargers of New Haven (6-6-3) on Warrior Field.
“We didn't convert on a lot of chances and our offense
just couldn't get going,” Head Coach Gabe
Mejail said of the Warriors first conference draw of the
year. “On the bright side, our defense played great and
Brittany [Gustafson] made some key stops for
us.”
The senior captain, Gustafson, made five saves in her second
straight shut-out and eighth win of the year.
Heading into the home stretch (five games), Mejail is hopeful that
the return of a few key players will energize the offense and
secure home field advantage in the postseason.
“We'll have a few players back, so our production
should pick up,” Mejail said. “We were hitting the
post, the crossbar, but just could not find the back of the net. It
was encouraging, though, to see our best effort in the overtime
period.”
The Warriors return to action on a two-game road trip beginning at
11-3 Franklin Pierce on Wednesday, October 14 at 6:00pm in Rindge,
New Hampshire.
