Men's Soccer Shut-out at Assumption, 2-0
WORCESTER, MA - Snapping a three-game win streak, the Merrimack
men's soccer Warriors dropped a road contest to the
Greyhounds of Assumption College Wednesday evening, 2-0.
Fighting for the six-seed in the Northeast-10 Conference
postseason with Assumption, Merrimack was shut-out for the first
time since playing to a 0-0 draw with the same Greyhounds a year
ago (October 22).
While the home team managed only three shots on net, that was
all they need to improve to 5-4-1 in conference play, while
Merrimack fell to 5-3 in the NE-10 and 7-5-1 overall.
In a game the Warriors recorded seven shots on net but remained
scoreless, senior captain Doug Carvalho (New Bedford,
MA) and junior Kevin Joyce (Mansfield,
MA) split time in net, each conceding a goal.
Said Head Coach Tony Martone of the loss,
“We certainly out-played them in the first half and had a
number of opportunities to score, but you have to give them credit
for how hard they play. They are a very athletic team that
doesn't give up a lot of goals. It is especially tough if
they score first because they keep a lot of guys behind the ball as
it is.”
The Warriors return to Warrior Field on Saturday, October 17 to
host Le Moyne College at 5:00pm.
