Women's Soccer Falls to Franklin Pierce, 2-1
RINDGE, NH – Looking to contain the second-ranked team in
the Northeast-10, the Merrimack women's soccer Warriors
(9-4-2, 6-4-1 NE-10) dropped a 2-1 decision to Franklin Pierce
University on the road, 2-1.
“We played very, very well, but [Gabriela] Demoner is just
such a talented player,” Head Coach Gabe
Mejail said of the loss and 25-goal-scoring midfielder.
“Melissa [Garabedian] did
such a good job marking her, but [Demoner] is the type of player
that is dangerous no matter where she is on the field.”
For the Warriors, sophomore Kara Hennigan (Pawtucket,
RI) returned to the lineup and provided Merrimack's
only score after two weeks out due to injury.
In net, senior Brittany Gustafson (East Hampton,
CT) stopped five shots in the complete game, but a pair of
Demoner-goals snuck just inside the post, beating the senior
keeper.
“Brittany played a great game as well,” said Mejail.
“We carried the play for most of the game, but the chances
they had were more dangerous than ours. In the end, I think we
played one of our best games of the year, which speaks to how good
of a team Franklin Pierce is.”
The Warriors return to action on the road at Le Moyne College on
Saturday, October 17 with a 12:00 noon start.
