Volleyball Falls to New Haven 3-0 Saturday
NEW HAVEN, CT – The Merrimack volleyball team, ranked
eighth in the region, lost its second straight match, losing to the
defending Northeast-10 Champions New Haven 3-0 Saturday
afternoon.
Game scores were 25-13, 25-21, 25-13 as New Haven improved to 13-1
in its last 14 matches.
The Warriors struggled offensively, committing 26 attack errors,
compared to just 25 kills. New Haven, meanwhile, controlled the
match, tallying 43 kills and just 13 attack errors, hitting .248
overall.
Three players, Molly Cindric (Westlake Village, CA),
Shaunda Forcier (Gonic, NH) and Megan Murray
(Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) posted a team-high five
kills, as the visitors managed just two service aces and one team
block. Alyssa Pickert (Tinley Park, IL) had 15
digs, while Elyse Lorenz (Frankfurt, IL) nearly
posted a double-double in just two sets, getting 12 assists and
nine digs.
Sara Malmlov led the Chargers with a double-double on 17 kills and
15 digs and hit .333 overall, while Keidy Candelaria had nine kills
and nine digs. The Chargers tallied 10 blocks as a team, including
one solo and four block assists from Elizabeth Akinbiyi.
In the final set, the Warriors had just five kills and committed 12
errors, hitting -.175 overall.
Merrimack (17-7, 6-4 NE-10) looks to rebound when it hosts rival
Bentley University Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
