Germano's Hat Trick Gives #8 Field Hockey 7-2 Win at Saint Anselm
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Closing out the most successful season
in Merrimack field hockey program history (12-7), the Warriors tied
a season-high seven goal output in a 7-2 win at Saint Anselm on
Saturday afternoon in Manchester.
With the win, the Warriors clinch the No. 4 seed and will host the
Panthers of Adelphi University on Wednesday, October 28 in the
Northeast-10 Conference quarterfinals. During the season, the
Warriors took both contests with Adelphi, 4-3 and 2-0.
On Saturday, senior captain Jaclyn Germano (Westwood,
MA) tallied the team's third hat trick on the year
with a pair of goals in the span of five minutes, including the
game winner at the 6:40 mark.
Freshman Jen Otis (Penacook, NH) scored a pair of
goals and helped on a penalty corner assist to Stephanie
Glazier (Sandown, NH).
Freshman Kerri Bergquist (Mashpee, MA) turned
aside six shots in net, all of which came in the second half.
Head Coach Anne Rounce spoke of the team's
record-setting 12th win of the year and winning four of the last
five contests of the year.
“It was a great way to cap off the season,” Rounce
said. “We're really looking forward to the postseason.
It's exciting to be hosting a game on our home turf.”
