GARDEN CITY, NY – Adelphi University improved to 12-1 in
conference play after defeating the Merrimack volleyball team 3-0
Saturday afternoon.
Game scores were 25-19, 25-21, 25-12.
The Warriors led 7-3 early in the first game, but the Panthers
rattled seven straight points to take the 10-7 lead. With the score
tied at 18, Adelphi took advantage of a Warrior service error and
scored seven of the final eight points for the 25-19 victory.
After losing the second set 25-21, Adelphi jumped to a 9-2 lead in
the third, cruising to the 25-12 victory as the Warriors posted
just four kills, compared to 10 errors.
Molly Cindric (Westlake Village, CA) tallied her
12th double-double in the loss, getting 11 kills and 14 digs, but
committed eight attack errors. Elyse Lorenz (Frankfurt,
IL) totaled 18 assists while Alyssa Pickert
(Tinley Park, IL) had 13 digs and a service ace.
Shaunda Forcier (Gonic, NH) added six kills, while
Natalee Yeazle (Blaine, MN) had four kills and
four digs.
After committing just seven attack errors in a 3-0 win over Pace
on Friday, the Warriors committed 10 attack errors in the first set
alone and 25 in the match, compared to just 26 kills (.009 hitting
percentage).
“We were mentally ready to compete and knew what was at
stake, and we didn't execute in all aspects of the
game,” said head coach Joey Pacis. “We weren't in
control and made many unforced errors and didn't convert
opportunities that we typically do. It was frustrating for
everybody. We didn't rise to the occasion to play a team that
we could compete with. Now we move on to Tuesday, and hopefully we
can find the magic we had Friday against Pace.”
Kasey Hackett led the Panthers with nine kills, while Patawe Simms
added eight. Heather Mau had 28 assists, while Amy Williams totaled
17 digs.
Merrimack (20-10, 7-6 NE-10), needing to win both of its final
matches to have a chance to qualify for the Northeast-10
Tournament, hosts AIC on Tuesday (7 p.m.) before visiting
Assumption Thursday (7 p.m.) to conclude the regular season.
