#9 Field Hockey Erupts for Seven Scores at Assumption
WORCESTER, MA – Wrapping up a two-game road trip, the
Merrimack field hockey Warriors (9-6, 4-2 NE-10) bounced back from
a loss to #7 Bentley to knock off Assumption College Friday
afternoon, 7-2.
Helping Merrimack to the most goals in the program's
previous six years, freshman Jen Otis (Penacook,
NH) tallied the program's fourth hat trick in six
years, all before the 25-minute mark of the first half. The last
three-goal outing for a Warrior came on September 24 of this year
when classmate April Daugherty (Lincoln, RI)
scored three in a 5-3 win over Southern Connecticut.
Senior captain Jaclyn Germano (Westwood, MA) was
also a multi-goal scorer in the win, tallying her second two-goal
performance in as many games. She also assisted on classmate
Krista Gordon's (Wakefield, MA) first career
goal in 66th minute.
With a 4-1 lead at the half, Merrimack continued applying pressure
in the second which Head Coach Anne Rounce said,
“really sealed the win early in the second half.”
Rounce also credits the play of her offense as a cohesive unit for
completing the season-sweep of Assumption.
“We capitalized on a number of good opportunities because of
our play in the midfield. April [Daugherty] and [Stephanie] Glazier
stepped up big and got our offense rolling.”
Freshman goalkeeper Kerri Bergquist (Mashpee, MA) tallied seven
saves in the win, making her season average an even 10 saves per
game to lead the Northeast-10 Conference for the seventh straight
week.
The Warriors return to Warrior Field on Tuesday, October 13 to
take on the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College (3-9,
1-3 NE-10) at 4:00pm.
