WEST HAVEN, CT – Capping a three-game win-streak, the Merrimack men's soccer team (7-4-1, 5-2 NE-10) snuck past the last place Chargers of New Haven, 2-1 on Friday afternoon in West Haven, Connecticut.

“We really should have put the game away earlier, but you have to give New Haven credit because they played us very tough,” Head Coach Tony Martone said of the team's third win in as many games. “We were able to get behind their defense, but could not finish a few breakaways that hurt us in the scoring department.”

Entering the week as the No. 4 goal-scorer in the country, sophomore Robbie Sabadoz (Ottawa, ON) scored both goals in Merrimack's seventh win of 2009. Distancing himself from the Northeast-10 Conference pack, Sabadoz is currently scoring at a clip (1.55 goals per game) near double the rate of his closest counterparts.

Junior midfielder Dominic Doenges (Mendon, VT) tallied his first point on the season with an assist to Sabadoz in the 33rd minute of play.

During the current win streak, junior Kevin Joyce (Mansfield, MA) has manned the net to record three straight winning decisions. On Friday, Joyce stopped a single shot on seven total Charger-shots.

Merrimack takes the field next on Wednesday, October 14 in Worcester against the Greyhounds of Assumption College at 7:00pm.
