Men's Soccer Exits NE-10 Tourney at Southern Connecticut

NEW HAVEN, CT – With a 2-1 loss on Sunday afternoon to No. 4 Southern Connecticut, the No. 5 Merrimack men's soccer team's 2009 season came to a close in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Conference championship.

The Owls advance to play the Hawks of Saint Anselm who upset the top-seeded Southern New Hampshire Penmen on Sunday afternoon, 1-0.

Sophomore midfielder Victor Plaza (Jundiai, Brazil) scored the Warriors lone goal in the 82nd minute after Merrimack gave up two unanswered scores in the 20th and 64th minutes.
Playing his final game in net, senior Doug Carvalho (New Bedford, MA) recorded five saves in a game the Warriors were out-shot 12-6.

The Warriors finish the season 11-7-1 and 9-4 in conference play. Conference Player of the Year, sophomore Robbie Sabadoz (Ottawa, ON) also ended the season with a program-record 19 goals to match Rich Fleming's tally in 1996.

Head Coach Tony Martone has now led Merrimack to five straight 10-win seasons and postseason berths.
