Women's Basketball Drops Home-Opener to Bentley, 71-62

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack women's basketball Warriors (0-2, 0-1 NE-10) dropped their home-opener Wednesday night to the Falcons of Bentley University (2-0, 1-0 NE-10), 71-62.

Junior Tiffany Colon (Lawrence, MA) posted a double-double for the Warriors with 10 points and 16 rebounds in a game the rebounding battle favored the Warriors, 43-42.

Senior Casey Miller (Fairbanks, AK) and junior Sarah Benischek (Shrub Oak, NY) each scored 15 points, while freshman Katie Ganser (Needham, MA) scored 11 in her second career game.

Despite a 13-point deficit at halftime, the Warriors rallied to pull within three when Miller and Ganser combined for nine points with seven minutes remaining in the game and start.

For the Falcons, Katherine Goodwin scored a game-high 20 points while Elise Caira scored 16 points and grabbed eight boards.

The Warriors return to action on Friday and Saturday in the Merrimack College Courtyard by Marriott Classic when they host Tiffin University on Friday at 7:30pm and East Stroudsburg or Tampa on Saturday at 1:00pm or 3:00pm. Merrimack resumes Conference play on Tuesday, November 24 at Stonehill College.

Head Coach Helen Williams spoke after the game of her team's conference-opener against the Falcons.

"I thought we showed great intensity and heart," Williams said.  "When we clean up our execution on offense and keep that intensity and heart, I believe we can be successful."
