Men's Basketball Slips up Against Stonehill, 65-60
EASTON, MA - Led by 20 points from Wayne Mack (Paterson,
NJ), the Merrimack men's basketball team saw as much as a
15-point advantage turn into a 65-60 loss to the Skyhawks of
Stonehill College Tuesday evening.
The Warriors jumped out to an early 16-4 lead on the road, but
saw their lead trimmed to seven at the half, 34-27. To start
the second half, Stonehill clawed back to take the lead at 52-51
with 6:15 to play and traded leads with Merrimack until opening the
lead up to seven at the one minute mark at which point the Warriors
were forced to foul.
Senior Darren Duncan (Briarwood, NY) scored 11
points on the night and dished out six assists along with three
steals in the Warriors loss.
Merrimack shot just 3-of-14 from three-point range in the first
half and 7-of-30 overall, a far cry from the 50% shooting they
enjoyed the last time out against Holy Family.
Even with a 21-11 advantage in the turnover battle, the Warriors
were out-rebounded for the fourth straight game this year Tuesday
night, 52-26.
Merrimack falls to 1-3 on the year while dropping their
Conference record to 0-2. Stonehill improves to 2-1 and 1-0
in the Conference with their Northeast-10 opener on Tuesday
evening.
The Warriors continue their Northeast-10 Conference schedule on
Sunday at Volpe Gym versus the River Hawks of cross-town rival
UMass-Lowell at 3:00pm.
