LOUISVILLE, KY - A career-high 28 points from senior captain Casey Miller (Fairbanks, AK) made her the newest member of the 1,000-point club at Merrimack, but it was not enough against Edinboro as the Warriors fell to the Fighting Scots on the first day of the Bellarmine University tournament Monday afternoon, 98-83.

Becoming to the 17th member of the 1,000-point club at Merrimack, Miller would lead her team with 9-of-15 shooting from the field.

"Casey's first concern has always been to do whatever the team needs from her for us to be successful," head coach Helen Williams said of her senior captain's accomplishment.  "I'm very proud of what she's achieved as a product of her hard work, but most of all I'm impressed with how she's done it all within the team concept."

Miller displayed that very selflessness with a career-high seven assists in the opening round of the Bellarmine University Holiday Tournament.

A team-high 27 points from Edinboro's Kelsey Conklin was too much for Merrimack as the Fighting Scots got to the line 39 times and converted on 33 to runaway with their fifth win of the year (5-2).

The Warriors fall to 2-8 (1-5 NE-10) with the loss heading into their final game of the 2009 calendar year tomorrow.

On Tuesday, the Warriors will face Queens College at 6:00pm before returning North for the holiday break.

1st Half

The Warriors jumped out to an early 16-6 lead on an 8-0 run early in the contest with four quick points from both Kelly Schatzlein (Tolland, CT) and Miller.  In the early going, five different Warriors scored while they shot 7-of-11 (63.6%) from the field.  Schatzlein would finish with a career-high 12 points while grabbing five rebounds on the afternoon.

While the Warriors held the Fighting Scots to just 23% shooting in the first 10 minutes, Edinboro fought their way back into the game to tie it at 23 at the 8:45 mark.  The Fighting Scots would take the lead for good at the six minute mark on two of Kelsey Conklin's 19 first half points.

Merrimack blanked Edinboro from long range (0-9) for the first 19:59, but a three at the buzzer gave the Fighting Scots a 13-point lead heading into the break.  The 18 first half turnovers Merrimack committed off-set their good defense and left the Warriors on the wrong side of a 43-30 halftime deficit.

2nd Half

The second half started much like the first half ended with the Fighting Scots scoring the first five points to cap off an 18-0 run for Edinboro.  Although the Warriors made nearly half of their shots (29-of-59), 29 turnovers in the game proved costly in the end for the Warriors.

The Fighting Scots led by 26 points as early as seven minutes into the second half and stretched their lead to 31 with an even nine minutes remaining.  The Warriors would end the game on a 19-5 run spear-headed by nine points from Miller, but the clock would run out on Merrimack as they conceded a season-high 98 points to Edinboro.

Following the Holiday Tournament at Bellarmine, the Warriors will head to Saint Anselm to resume their Northeast-10 Conference play against the Hawks on Saturday, January 2nd at 1:30pm.
