Men's Soccer Ties Concordia in Doubletree Classic Finale
COLCHESTER, VT – The Merrimack men's soccer team
(1-0-1, 0-0-0 NE-10) closed out the Doubletree Soccer Classic at
Saint Michael's College on Saturday morning with a 2-2 tie
against Concordia University at Doc Jacobs Field.
For the Warriors, freshman Olof Lindhe
(Stockholm, Sweden) and sophomore Jimmy Goncalves
(Marlborough, MA) tallied a goal in the first and second half,
respectively. Sophomore Evan Burokas (Auburn, MA)
and freshman Sam Nunes (Marlboro, NJ) recorded
assists on the Warrior goals.
Junior Kevin Joyce (Mansfield, MA) manned between
the pipes for 90 minutes, making three saves in a game in which 15
Warriors saw action on the field.
Following the contest, Coach Tony Martone
expressed optimism looking forward to the Merrimack Invitational
beginning on Friday, September 4 in North Andover.
“We were able to play a lot of the younger guys, and give
them 90 minutes under their belt. We definitely made some progress
in coming together as a team even though we are still very much
experimenting with our lineup and formations," Martone said.
“Obviously getting into conference play the key is to work
out some of the mistakes we made over the weekend. By playing and
practicing together more, we'll hopefully get rid of those
mistakes.”
The Warriors host the Merrimack Invitational with fellow
Northeast-10 American International and the ECC's Dominican
College and Post University.
