Field Hockey Wins Fourth Straight In OT At Southern Connecticut
NEW HAVEN, CT - The Merrimack Field Hockey Warriors (4-3, 1-0
NE-10) picked up their fourth straight win Saturday afternoon over
the Owls of Southern Connecticut, 3-2 in overtime.
The last four-game win streak for the Warriors came in 2006 when
Merrimack won five straight from September 14 to 26.
Scoring the overtime game-winner for the Warriors was the
team's leader in points (13), freshman Jen
Otis (Penacook, NH), from classmate April
Daugherty (Lincoln, RI) in the first minute of overtime
play.
Daugherty scored a goal of her own to send the game into overtime
50 ticks before time expired in regulation. Sophomore
Stephanie Glazier (Sandown, NH) tallied the
team's first goal of the afternoon to tie the score at one in
the 20th minute.
Freshman Kerri Bergquist (Mashpee, MA) saw 24 Owl
shots, 14 of which were on net, tallying 12 saves in her fourth
straight win.
Head Coach Anne Rounce shared after the game how
impressed she was with her team's effort.
“Playing from behind virtually the whole game, this win
shows the incredible character of this team and their ability to
deal with adversity,” Rounce said. “Kerri's
penalty stroke save at the end of the first half was huge for us,
and I think we built on that in the second half.”
Looking for their fifth straight win, the Warriors return home to
Warrior Field on Wednesday, September 15 to face the Greyhounds of
Assumption (1-4, 0-1 NE-10) at 7:00pm.
