Volleyball Improves to 7-2 with 3-0 Win over Saint Anselm
NORTH ANDOVER, MA - The Merrimack volleyball team picked up its
third straight 3-0 victory Tuesday night, defeating Saint Anselm in
a non-conference game at the Volpe Gym.
Game scores were 25-11, 25-15, 25-12.
The Warriors started quickly, leading 13-4 early behind three
kills each from Molly Cindric (Westlake Village,
CA) and Megan Murray (Rancho Santa Margarita,
CA). They hit .312 in the first game, compared to -.028
for the Hawks.
In the second, the Hawks led 9-7, but the Warriors closed the
game with a 12-4 run, capped off with an ace from Elyse
Lorenz (Frankfurt, IL).
They led early in the third 8-2, but the visitors didn't quit,
cutting the lead to 18-10, before the Warriors rattled off seven of
the final nine points, with Heidi Wroblicky (Irvine,
CA) hitting an ace, her fifth of the game to close the
match.
Cindric led the way with nine kills, four digs and a .219
hitting percentage, while Murray added eight kills and four blocks,
including a solo block. Natalee Yeazle (Blaine,
MN) was strong defensively with a team-high 13 digs and
four blocks to go with two aces, while Nicole Duarte
(Windham, NH) chipped in with four kills in the final two
games and two digs.
Wroblicky's five aces equaled a team-high for the season.
Merrimack hit .247 in the match and tallied eight team blocks.
The Hawks struggled offensively, committing 19 kills to 25 errors.
Charlotte Tencza led the way for the visitors with seven kills
and eight digs.
Merrimack (7-2) hosts Bridgeport Friday at 4 p.m. The two teams
met on September 5 in Bridgeport with the Purple Knight prevailing
3-0.
