Gramprey Reaches Century Mark in Win Over Bentley
WALTHAM, MA – Less than eight minutes into a 3-1 win over
Bentley University, senior captain Gabrielle
Gramprey (Brockton, MA) fired a rocket past the Falcons
goalie to notch her 100th career point that “epitomized her
career at Merrimack,” according to Head Coach Gabe
Mejail.
With her 10th goal of the season, Gramprey became the 11th
player in Merrimack's program history to reach the 100-point
plateau. Rachel McCarthy '02 is the program's leader in
points (165), followed by Kim Hall '04 (144).
Following Gramprey's go-ahead goal, the teams battled for
over 70 scoreless minutes before the Falcons retaliated in the 80th
minute. Awoken by the tying goal, Merrimack's juniors
Ashley Alnwick (Groton, MA) and Melissa
Garabedian (Salem, MA) tallied scores to help the Warriors
pull away in the final three minutes of the game.
Senior captain goalkeeper Brittany Gustafson
(East Hampton, CT) made five saves in her fifth win of the
year.
Mejail was happy to have Gramprey reach her milestone today, but
understands the need for his team to capitalize on scoring
opportunities.
“Bentley played us extremely tough for most of the
game,” Mejail said. “What kept us in the game was our
great defense, similar to how we played against Southern
Connecticut.”
Improving to 5-1-1 on the year, the Warriors return home to play
the undefeated and No. 3 nationally-ranked College of Saint Rose
(5-0) on Saturday, September 19 at 1:00pm.
