Field Hockey Stretches Streak to Six at Adelphi
GARDEN CITY, NY – Jumping out to a 3-0 lead, the Merrimack
field hockey Warriors (6-3) picked up their sixth straight win of
the season over Adelphi Saturday afternoon, 4-3. Freshman
April Daugherty (Lincoln, RI) tallied a pair of
goals to lead the Warrior offense.
Despite being out-shot 19-8, the Warriors found a way to win
behind their freshman goalkeeper Kerri Bergquist (Mashpee,
MA), who tallied 11 saves in her sixth straight win.
Scoring her fifth goal in as many games, senior captain
Jaclyn Germano (Westwood, MA) tallied the fourth
and final Merrimack goal in the 67th minute of play.
Head Coach Anne Rounce was pleased with the
overall team effort in a win that Merrimack dodged 17 penalty
corner opportunities.
“Today was definitely a team win,” Rounce said
following the game. “Victoria [DeLacey] stepped up big for us
late in the game. She was the key to our last goal.”
Looking to extend their streak to seven, the Warriors continue
their road trip at CW Post on Sunday at 12:00pm.
