#5 UMass-Lowell Slips Past Field Hockey, 2-1
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Playing the #5 UMass-Lowell River
Hawks to 1-1 tie at halftime, the Merrimack field hockey Warriors
(6-5, 1-1 NE-10) could not hold on, as senior Jaclyn
Germano's (Westwood, MA) goal was all the Warriors
could muster in a 2-1 home loss.
The River Hawks' Sammy Macy scored her conference-leading
10th and 11th goal of the year to steal a win from the home team.
In the win, UMass-Lowell fired 31 shots to Merrimack's
12.
Freshman Kerri Bergquist (Mashpee, MA) added to
her league-leading tally in saves (106) with 14 on the afternoon,
including eight in the second half.
Rebounding from a 5-1 loss at Lowell in August, the Warriors
played a solid overall defensive game, highlighted by junior
Ashley Nadeau's (Canton, MA) aggressive
marking of Macy.
“They stole one from us today, but I'm proud of how
our defense played. Ashley [Nadeau] came through for us,
especially in the second half,” Head Coach Anne
Rounce said. “I just hope we get another shot at
[UMass-Lowell] before the end of the year.”
The Merrimack field hockey Warriors return to Warrior Field on
Thursday, September 24 to take on Southern Connecticut at 3:00pm.
