Men's Soccer, Sabadoz Shoot Down Skyhawks in Double OT
EASTON, MA – The Merrimack men's soccer Warriors
(4-2-1, 2-0 NE-10) pulled out a double-overtime win at Stonehill
College Tuesday afternoon thanks to a pair of goals from sophomore
Robbie Sabadoz (Ottawa, ON), including the
game-winner seconds before the end of overtime number two.
Senior captain Greg Motta (Saunderstown, RI)
tallied a pair of assists for the Warriors, including the helper on
Sabadoz's game-winner. Adding to the Merrimack offense was
junior Elvert Bodden (Londonderry,
NH) who tallied his first career goal in the 65th
minute of play.
With two goals, the reigning Northeast-10 Conference Player of
the Week, Sabadoz, increased his remarkable run of seven goals in
just five appearances this season.
A relieved Head Coach Tony Martone spoke of his
second double-overtime in three contests and second straight
conference win.
“We took the lead twice, but let up a few times which
allowed them to get back in the game,” Martone said.
“It's an important win for us and helps to start off
strong in conference play against a good Stonehill team. They
played us tough and had a couple opportunities to win it in
overtime, but Robbie [Sabadoz] just made a play for us like
he's done since day one.”
The Warriors return home to face the perennially-powerful Ravens
of Franklin Pierce University (5-2-1) on Saturday, September 26 at
1:00pm
