Women's Soccer Shuts Out Stonehill, 3-0
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack women's soccer
Warriors (6-2-1, 3-2 NE-10) notched their fourth shut-out of the
year Tuesday evening at Warrior Field over the Stonehill College
Skyhawks thanks to a quick start from junior midfielder
Ashley Alnwick's (Groton, MA) fourth goal of
the year.
Sophomore Kara Hennigan (Pawtucket, RI) also
drilled her fourth goal of the season from Kerri Domohowski
(Saugus, MA) and Jessie DeGraan (Braintree,
MA) on a corner in the 31st minute.
Senior captain Jackie Vickers (Norwell,
MA) [right] gave the Warriors their third 3-0
decision of the year with her first goal of the season from Alnwick
in the 86th minute.
Senior captain Brittany Gustafson (East Hampton,
CT) notched her sixth win of the season, while sophomore
Kiley Horne (Scituate, MA) spelled Gustafson in
the second half to make four saves.
Head Coach Gabe Mejail shared his content
following the game's conclusion in a night Merrimack out-shot
Stonehill 31-10 and earned 15 corners to the Skyhawks two.
“We did an excellent job of locking the ball in the
offensive zone,” Mejail said. “We had a number of
opportunities to finish off plays, but I would have liked to see us
finish a few more. Either way, we showed some very good
aggressiveness from start to finish.”
The Warriors hit the road next against Adelphi University (Garden
City, NY) on Sunday, September 27 at 1:00pm for a conference
match-up.
