Field Hockey Scores Four in Second Half to Best Southern Connecticut, 5-3
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack field hockey Warriors
(7-5, 2-1 NE-10) scored four goals in the second half (all of which
freshman April Daugherty (Lincoln, RI) had a hand
in) to best the Owls of Southern Connecticut (1-9, 1-2 NE-10)
Thursday afternoon at Warrior Field, 5-3.
Daugherty, the team's leading scorer (27 points), tallied
three goals and two assists to help snap a two-game losing skid for
the Warriors.
Sophomore Stephanie Glazier (Sandown, NH) tallied
an assist and a goal which became the game-winner, while classmate
Sarah Salatto (Guilford, CT) scored her second
goal of the year.
With the comeback win, Head Coach Anne Rounce was
proud more than anything of her team's perseverance.
“We fought hard even when we fell behind," Rounce said.
"Even though it doesn't show up in the box score,
Katie Zubkus (Dover, NH) was the player of the
game today. She kept Southern Connecticut from making
counter-attacks, and she got our offense jump-started in the second
half.”
The Warriors begin a three-game road trip in Springfield,
Massachusetts at American International College on Saturday,
September 26 at noon to play their third of nine straight
Northeast-10 Conference games.
