Men's Soccer Falls to Franklin Pierce, 2-1
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Looking to remain unbeaten in
conference play, the men's soccer Warriors of Merrimack
College (4-3-1, 2-1 NE-10) were upended by the Ravens of Franklin
Pierce (6-3-1, 4-2 NE-10) on Saturday afternoon at Warrior Field,
2-1.
Despite the loss, sophomore Robbie Sabadoz (Ottawa,
ON) extended his goal-scoring streak to six games with his
eighth goal of the season. Sophomore Victor Plaza (Jundiai,
Brazil) assisted Sabadoz's game-tying goal.
Merrimack had a number of last-minute efforts, but a strike off the
crossbar from freshman Olof Lindhe (Stockholm,
Sweden) with six seconds remaining was as close to tying
the game as the Warriors could get.
Senior goalkeeper Doug Carvalho (New Bedford, MA)
stopped four shots on the afternoon in a game Merrimack was
out-shot 20-12.
Failing to start their conference schedule 3-0, Head Coach
Tony Martone understood the implications of this
conference match-up at home versus a top-tier team.
“Franklin Pierce is one of the teams in our conference you
need to beat if you want to make it to the next level,”
Martone said. “No team in the conference is an easy win, and
we have to get up for each and every game. We played hard today; we
just needed a few more balls to bounce our way.”
The Warriors return to action at Southern New Hampshire (7-1-1,
4-0-1 NE-10), the top team in the Northeast-10 Conference, on
Wednesday, September 30 at 7:00pm.
