Volleyball Downs Southern New Hampshire 3-1 Saturday
NORTH ANDOVER, MA - The Merrimack volleyball team tallied its
first conference win, defeating unbeaten Southern New Hampshire 3-1
Saturday afternoon at the Volpe Gym.
Game scores were 25-9, 25-14, 18-25, 25-13.
"It was a quality win," said head coach Joey
Pacis. "I am very proud of the effort our team put in to
comeback after dropping a tight third-set.
The Warriors came out strong, using an 8-0 run with
Heidi Wroblicky (Irvine, CA) serving to take the
early 10-2 lead. They hit .433 in the first set, getting five early
kills from Megan Murray (Rancho Santa Margarita,
CA), while making just three errors as a team.
The Penmen grabbed the 4-0 lead to start the second, but
Merrimack responded with a 9-1 run, featuring two aces from
Molly Cindric (Westlake Village, CA). They cruised
from there to the 25-14 victory.
Despite falling 25-18 in the third behind solid defense and
serving from the Penmen, Merrimack closed out the match with a
25-13 fourth-set victory that featured two aces from Elyse
Lorenz (Frankfort, IL).
Lorenz, who's sister Lauren is the setter from Southern New
Hampshire, tallied 36 assists, seven digs, two aces, two blocks and
two kills, while her sister had 14 assists and four aces.
Cindric and Murray finished with 13 kills each, while
Alyssa Pickert (Tinley Park, IL) tallied a
game-high 21 digs. Nicole Duarte (Windham, NH)
added five kills in the final two sets, while Shaunda
Forcier (Gonic, NH) posted 10 kills in the win. Merrimack
hit .222 overall, committing 11 of its 21 attack errors in the
third set.
Merrimack (12-3, 1-1 NE-10) visits UMass Lowell on Tuesday for a
7 p.m. match.
